Episode 13 – Affirmations

Episode 13 - Affirmations

In this episode (13) of the Exploring Happiness podcast, I share my recent experiences with affirmations. While I have been aware of this tool for a long time and have tried them out before, I have only now discovered it for me.

Affirmations can be powerful tools to help change beliefs, brain patterns, and overwriting negative assumptions. They help us trick the brain into thinking differently and step away from outdated ideas. But we trick OUR brains intentionally, so it doesn’t count as brainwashing.

Affirmations should be positive and in the present tense. It helps to imagine what we are affirming, such as “I have a healthy body” and then think of how that looks for us individually.

Helpful affirmations are “I approve of myself”, “I am willing to change”, “I love myself” and “all is well”. These affirmations form the foundation for other affirmations about work, success, money, love and health. It’s great to have a play with them.

Look at the Podcast overview page if you haven’t listened to my other episodes. I have covered general topics like what happiness is and how gratitude, positive thinking, being social and healthy habits support happiness. I’m talking about topics like global warming, play and negativity bias. And most importantly, I have answered the question of who is responsible for your happiness and what to do about it.
